Promoting your local Latin Mass

This is how to advertise a Latin Mass if it is not permitted to be included in the parish bulletin.

This picture was taken in Cleveland, Ohio.

Here is a better picture of the pilgrimage passing the Margaret Clitherow Shrine in the Shambles in York.

Pilgrimage in Honour of St Margaret Clitherow and the Martyrs of York.

This pilgrimage was a great success with around 250 in the congregation at the Mass,  Here are some pictures.

Report on the Walsingham Pilgrimage

The Latin Mass Society's 2024 pilgrimage to Walsingham is over.  Over 200 pilgrims walked the 57 miles from Ely to Walsingham.  Some of these had had extended the pilgrimage by stating the previous day in Cambridge.  An even smaller number had started much earlier and walked all the way from London.  The pilgrimage was supported by a further dozen people who did the catering, moved the baggage, provided the toilets and prepared for the Masses.

A flavour of the joyful nature of the pilgrimage can be seen in the following clip of pilgrims arriving after the first day of walking.

Here are some more pictures taken en route.

This is how toilets are provided for the pilgrims at each stopping point.

The destination is reached.

Some pilgrims stayed overnight and attended Mass is the Slipper Chapel on the Monday morning.  Here is a clip.

Good Attendance at Assumption Mass

The Solemn Mass for the Feast of the Assumption last night at the York Oratory was very well attended.  The picture below shows how full the church was.

It was also a musical treat, the musical setting being Palastrina's  Assumpta est Maria.  There was also the motet, Ave Maria, by Parsons.

I did not get a chance to count the size of the congregation, but I would estimate more than 200.  I noticed many new faces.  It was also very noticeable how many young people were present.  Again I do not have any figures, but would estimate that two thirds of the congregation was under the age of 30.

Sunday Mass in Yarm

I attended the Latin Mass offered by Fr David Smith last Sunday at the Church of St Mary and St Romual in Yarm.  There were 12 in the congregation, which was a smaller number than I expected.  Clearly something needs to be done to publicise this Mass,  Can you help?

Here are the details:

          Low Mass   2pm every Sunday

Church of St Mary & St Romual. High Street, Yarm, TS15 9AA

The church is a very fine one designed by George Goldie, an d opened in 1860  There have very few changes to it since its opening, other than the installation of a forward altar.  It is easy to find and parking is available nearby, which I understand is free on Sundays.

Synodality

This is old news, but nevertheless worth repeating.  On both Facebook and Twitter, the Vatican published a pole on the subject of Synodality.  Not surprisingly, the posts were taken down soon after a consistent trend emerged.  Here are the results after 6,908 votes had been cast.

Covadonga Pilgrimage attracts 1600 walkers

1,600 people who took part in the walking pilgrimage from Oviedo to Covadonga in Spain,  I am not sure how this compares with last year, but the extensive video coverage available on the internet would suggest that it is a substantial increase on last year.  The pilgrims were arranged in 32 chapters, of which 8 were from outside Spain.

An instruction, originating in Rome, prevented the final Mass from taking place at the basilica in Covadonga, so it was rearranged to take place earlier in the day under a marquee at the campsite.  This change did nothing to dampen the spirits of the pilgrims, and, arguably, boosted the number of pilgrims attending.
