Tabernacles to Return to Centre of Sanctuary

I have just read on Fr Henry's blog, Offerimus Tibi Domine, that Most Rev Thomas Paprocki of the Diocese of Springfield, Illinois has issued a directive concerning the positioning of tabernacles. He requires that in all churches and chapels of the diocese, where the tabernacle was formerly in the centre of the sanctuary, it should be returned to its original position, in accordance with the original architectural design. Only in churches where the tabernacle has never been at the centre of the sanctuary is it allowed to remain in an alternative position, and then only if it is in a visible, prominent and noble position. I often think that, if one wants to speculate on how things will be in this country in 20 years time, it is a good idea to look at what is happening in Americaat the present time.

I wholeheartedly agree with your comments about America and how things will be in this country in 20 years. I have been thinking this for a while now. The situation in the southern states is particularly interesting. I love those Mission churches in the deep south and enjoyed the EWTN Extraordinary Faith series which started off by looking at those mission churches. The presence of the E.F. Mass in some liberal arts colleges and private Catholic schools is also interesting. They always say when America sneezes, then Britain catches a cold (or words to that effect) and the sooner the better as far as the Latin Mass is concerned.

I heard it said recently that The Latin Mass Society should concern itself with the use of Latin and not simply the use of the 1962 Missal if it is a truly Catholic Society.

I remember Cardinal Hume saying: "I like strawberries AND cream."

Yes, it is good to have Latin, but even better to have Latin AND the Mass of Ages.

The "Mass of the Ages" is the Ordinary Form. It is time to stop misusing this expression.
